Stepping Out With Faith
Stepping Out With Faith
Matthew 25:35–40
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for me"
Background
Faith and David met in 2013 during a Tearfund trip to Rwanda, where they quickly discovered a shared heart for Africa and its people. Both were deeply moved by the injustice of poverty they witnessed, and felt a strong sense of calling to dedicate their lives to serving and supporting those in need. They married in 2014 and then undertook practical training to better equip themselves for long-term service overseas, with Faith training as a nurse and David qualifying as an electrician. Their return to Africa was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, but in spring 2022 they were finally able to travel to Uganda to explore where their skills could best be used, and following that time, they moved to Uganda and have now been serving there for the past four years with YES Uganda.
David currently serves as the Deputy Director of YES Uganda, working closely with Carol, the Director, in supporting the organisation’s education programmes and wider development work. He also plays a key leadership role in the ongoing running of the charity and is in line to eventually take over the organisation when Carol steps down. Faith serves as the Deputy Warden of Manor Rescue Home, an HIV children’s home, where she leads and supports a team caring for the children, bringing both professional and compassionate care as a nurse. She also manages the finances of the home and oversees social media and communications, helping to share the story and needs of the children and the work being done.
Alongside their work, David and Faith are also building their family in Uganda, currently fostering three amazing children and prayerfully exploring adoption. They also care for three dogs and are fully rooted in life and community in Uganda. In addition to their roles with YES Uganda, they are involved in church planting under Vineyard Uganda, helping to run children’s services at Manor Rescue Home, along with Bible study groups and worship sessions, as they work towards launching regular church services in the near future.
